This lovely book is another great addition to the Shadowhunter book series. Cassandra Clare and co-writer Wesley Chu spin a unique tale of romance and adventure between Magnus Bane (Warlock) and Alec Lightwood (Shadowhunter). Yes, that's right, we have a same-sex relationship between a Shadowhunter and Warlock. After surviving an epic battle against Valentine Morgenstern, and then Alec "coming out" in front of the Clave by kissing Magnus, it's time for some relaxation. What better way then to go on a cross country European trip with your boyfriend? Of course, the trip isn't going according to plan because there is trouble brewing with a cult called the Crimson Hand. The occasional demon attacks are putting a damper on  their romance. This book is a collaboration between Cassandra Clare and fellow authors who contributed novellas about the famous Magnus Bane, High Warlock of Brooklyn, New York. Magnus Bane is a major character within the Shadowhunter series because of his constant involvement with the Shadowhunters and Downworlder's alike. Any reader who reads this book will notice the time stamps for every entry along with his current location. Within the text readers get an in-depth look at who Magnus Bane is as a person and how he interacts with other characters in the Shadowhunter series. After I finished reading this book I realized there was so much depth to Magnus Bane and how strong his character is. The reason why I think Magnus is such a genuinely strong character in the series is the fact that he is immortal and is able to out live everyone. This book is a collection of stories developed by not only Cassandra Clare but fellow authors who know how to create a marvelous story line. The book follows a former Shadowhunter,  James "Jem" Carstairs, who is now a Silent Brother known as Brother Zachariah. He is a sworn keeper of the law and lore of the Nephilim of the Shadowhunter world. Of course, as a former Shadowhunter he hasn't forgotten his loved ones when he died in the last story, The  Clockwork Princess.  The beginning of his journey leads him to the Shadow Market in London where all Downworlders (supernatural creatures) come to buy, sell, or trade magical objects among other things. As the Shadow Market is booming many of the Downworlder's are surprised to see a Silent Brother amidst their stalls. Chain of Gold is the first book of The Last Hour series written by the outstanding author Cassandra Clare. I recently read this book during the pandemic and lets just say it was phenomenal! Here's what you need to know when you start to read this book: First, this book takes place several years later after The Infernal Device series (Clockwork Angel, Clockwork Prince, and Clockwork Princess). Second, this story is based on the next Shadowhunter generation which includes Will Herondale and Tessa Gray's children, James and Lucy Herondale, and other Shadowhunter families in the past series. Not only are we being introduced to new characters and the dynamics of their families, but we learn that demons haven't made their appearance in a while. This lack of appearance has caused Shadowhunters to ease up on their guard and duties which isn't a good thing, because suddenly a surge of demons appears out of nowhere. The Infernal Devices is a trilogy series that the famous author Cassandra Clare has published in the past. This trilogy has an outstanding setting which is in London England during the Victorian period. Regardless of the setting, this is still a shadowhunter series and there's trouble brewing on the horizon. It's up to the three main characters, Tessa Gray, Jem Castairs, and Will Herondale to stop what is coming. Each character is unique and developed extraordinary well to provide any reader with the ability to relate even though the time period is set around 1870's. What does the 1870's look like you may ask? Well, it includes ladies that wear corsets and men wear suits.  If you need a visual the movie  Gone with the Wind , is a great example of fashion.  Our beloved characters are trying to solve a mystery and plot that includes Tessa Gray and her unique ability to shapeshift into other beings dead or alive. Have you ever heard of Cassandra Clare? Well, if you haven't heard of Cassandra Clare then you should check out some of these amazing books that she has written. The Dark Artifices is just one of the series that is talented author had written, and she's also known for the Mortal Instrument Series where you may have heard the names, Clary Fray and Jace Herondale. If the names still don't ring a bell perhaps you may have seen the Freeform's TV series  Shadowhunters  which is based on the book series. Of course, the TV series may be substantially off according to the book series because lets face it most movie or TV adaptations don't always portray books all that well. If you are interested in books that have adventure, supernatural, suspense, and teenage romance then this book series and author would be a great addition to anyone's reading.
